BLXPLTN (Austin, TX)
BLXPLTN (Blaxploitation) is an electro-punk music project out of Austin, TX. Power trio TaSzlin Muerte (electro drums, vocals) Jonathan "Javelin" Horstmann (bass, synth, vocals) and Khattie, aka Lil K Big Q (guitar, screams), comes together to create music that has distinct punk, industrial, and hip-hop influences. Audience reactions to live shows range from headbanging and moshing to drop-jawed, drooling disbelief. All multi-instrumentalist veterans of live performance and touring,TaSzlin, Jonathan, and Khattie are quickly gaining recognition and support both locally and nationally. They are currently completing their first full-length studio album with Autry Fulbright (...Trail of Dead, Midnight Masses) and Elliott Frazier (Ringo Deathstarr) for release in October 2014
"Taking form last spring, BLXPLTN stands out both for its future-sound take on Eighties American hardcore – compete with live electric drums – as well as effectively capturing an attitude that's both hostile and inspiring." -Kevin Curtin, Austin Chronicle
"The Austin-based trio blends punk fury with industrial and electrocrass sounds on “Stop and Frisk” and “Train.” Building from a minimal electro beat and distorted bass “Stop and Frisk” eviscerates the tactic. ...Sounding something like Black Flag with an electronic drum kit, the trio of TaSzlin Muerte, Jonathan Hortsmann, and Khattie Q inject raw minimalism with a new fire." -Nathan Leigh, Afropunk
Lower Life Form (Houston, TX)
L.L.F… – Together since 2001, Houston based Lower Life Form has been rocking the streets of Houston for 6 years strong. Originally a two member crew with PhD (vocals), and Ish (djay), they released their debut album “The Lowlife” in 2004 on Liphe Records. .. .. They became twice as strong in 2005 with the addition of full time producer “C.O.S.”, and fellow front man “Brew”. The next two years were spent learning each other, and banging out track after track, until the chemistry was right. Finally, in 2007, LLF birthed their sophmore album entitled “Time Cards”, an ode to the Blue Collar American. This project would end up “maturing” them more than they had ever imagined. .. .. With “Time Cards” on wrap, and C.O.S. going back to school to follow his dreams in art and videography, the group decided to rework things and move towards an idea they had shared for quite sometime. In March 2007, LLF made the move to a more organic feel with the backing of a five piece band. With Eggy on drums, Wayne on bass, Willie on the keys, Cory on sax and flute, and Jon on trumpet, the result was a warm soulful sound, and an energetic live show guaranteed to turn it out everytime they take the stage. .. .. With strong backgrounds in a variety of music genres, the members of LLF combine their common tastes to create music that is not only appealing to the soul, but easy on the ears, all while delivering a clear message with every track. What influences LLF? Alcohol, friends, and fun…..and a common love of good music
