    Michigan is home to many memorials and monuments dedicated to the 38th president of United States of America, Gerald Ford, who spend his boyhood in the city. Located on the Walker Avenue, this monument however, is unique in that, it features the former president as a boy wearing his boy scout uniform. Inspiring the local youth and students, the Gerald R. Ford Boy Scout Statue is worth a watch.

    »John Ball Zoo

    Located on Fulton Avenue, the John Ball Zoo is owned and operated by the County of Kent. One of the most attended cultural facilities in the city, the zoo is home to over 250 species of animals, amounting to one of the largest collections of zoo animals in Michigan. The management also arranges for many educational programs and events for children. Apart from the friendly, live animals, the ceramic Loch Ness monster in the zoo pond is also a local favorite.

    »Nunica Stonehenge

    Located in the front lawn of a private home, the Nunica Stonehenge is a near perfect replica of the original Stonehenge. Created by the home's owners Fred and Pam Levin who are fans of the world heritage site, it was installed in 2007. Made up of stucco and foam for most parts, the henge stretches up to 13 feet (3.96 meters). Although not open to public without owners' permission, it can be easily viewed from the street making for a really fantastic roadside attraction.

    »WZZM 13 Weatherball

    The WZZM 13 Weatherball located on Mile Road is a steel structure which was first installed in 1967. The 125 foot (38 meters) structure is almost entirely made of steel. Initially perched atop the Michigan National Bank building till its removal in 1999, the WZZM 13 was modelled after the Citizen's Bank Building weather ball in Flint. Its currently rests on a 100-foot (30 meter) pole where it was installed in 2003.

    »1928 Spillman Carousel

    1928 Spillman Carousel was originally operated in the Lakewood Amusement Park later the park was closed and Peter Cook, late benefactor of Grand Rapids initiated the restoration of the carousel to get it to Grand Rapids Public Museum. The Spillman Carousel is a beautifully bejewelled carousel mounting 44 horses and a tiger, goat, deer, camel, lion and a giraffe and two chariots, all of which are intricately painted. The carousel rotates to the tunes of Wurlitzer band organ and delights young and old patrons of the museum. Every year on Peter Cook's birthday on May 9, the museum offers free carousel rides.
