SELECT SUNDAYS IN APRIL PROGRAMMED FOR AUBURN CONNECTS! THE COMMON BOOK PROGRAM Auburn Connects! The Common Book Program encourages students to read a variety of books; promotes community through shared reading experiences; raises awareness and provides insight to the human condition; creates a culture of respect for diverse viewpoints; and develops lifelong habits of intellectual curiosity, engagement, and critical thinking. The book chosen for 20142015 is The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba, and a film series at JCSM will pair with the campus-wide program. Each Sunday film begins at 2 p.m. JCSM is open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays. APRIL 12: WILLIAM AND THE WINDMILL (MALAWI) Documentary/Biography/Drama | 88 min. William Kamkwamba, a young Malawian, builds a power-generating windmill from junk parts to rescue his family from famine, transforming his life and catapulting him on to the world stage. His fame and success lead him to new opportunities and complex choices about his future, distancing him from the life he once knew. APRIL 19: THE LAST FISHING BOAT (MALAWI) Drama | 110 min. A once successful fisherman on Lake Malawi is now struggling due to the depletion of fish in the lake, while his cultural values are being threatened. APRIL 26: FINDING HILLYWOOD (RWANDA) Documentary | 53 min. Set among the hills of Rwanda, Finding Hillywood chronicles one mans road to forgiveness, his effort to heal his country, and the realization that we all must one day face our past. A film is a unique and endearing phenomenon film about the very beginning of Rwandas film industry and the pioneers who bring local films to rural communities and a real-life example of the power of film to heal a man and a nation.
