The Akron Symphony Orchestra, formed in Akron, Ohio, is known locally and throughout the world for providing concerts and guest performances of the highest caliber. The orchestra was founded in 1949 by Mabel Lamborn Graham, who then spent the next several years diligently fundraising for its grand opening. Since opening with its first season in 1952, the Akron Symphony Orchestra has since grown to become one of Ohio's greatest symphony orchestras, as well as a tremendous educational resource for youth in the city of Akron. As of 2006, the Akron Symphony Orchestra has been under the direction of Christopher Wilkins, and continues to provide audiences of all ages with a unique cultural experience.
The Golden Flashes represents the athletic programs and
intercollegiate teams of Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.
The university maintains Division I standing in the NCAA and competes in the Mid-American Conference and the Football Bowl Subdivision. Kent State has enjoyed moderate success with its baseball and basketball programs over the years, with the latter racking up multiple NCAA Tournament appearances by both the men's and women's squads.
