From Murder To Genocide: Violence In The Bible With Dr. Regina Stein
Museum at Eldridge StreetMarch 04, 2015 11:00 PM
12 Eldridge Street
New York, NY 10002
8 Tuesdays:  March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31; April 14, 21, 28, from 11 am to 12:30 pm The Bible begins its story of humanitys adventure on earth with a tale of murder. It paints a picture of a God who is pleased when one Israelite zealously kills another. It recounts episodes of child sacrifice. It mandates the execution of a rebellious son and the total destruction of an idolatrous Israelite city. What roles do these violent stories and laws play in the Bible? How do they impact our understanding of the Biblical claim that Its ways are pleasant and all its paths are peaceful? We will explore Biblical texts along with rabbinic and modern interpretations to grapple with these questions.

146 Broadway
Brooklyn, NY 11211
The Southern California-based band The Growlers creates a psych-tinged dark-wave brand of surf rock that it describes as "beach goth." With a psychedelic aesthetic combined with campy lyrics and riotous live performances complete with matching outfits, the band held a residency at the Los Angeles venue The Echo during the summer of 2009, the same year its full-length debut Are You In or Are You Out? was released. In the following years, the band began traveling across the country with its reverb-heavy rock and roll, playing major festivals and collecting a widespread group of fans along the way.

Kitten is a five-piece Los Angeles band fronted by singer/songwriter/guitarist Chloe Chaidez. The band started making waves while still in high school--when Chaidez was only 15 and the oldest member was only 21. The talented youngsters make glossy, radio-friendly indie-pop with occasional flourishes of twee and punk.
