A bit of the Atlantic Forest in an urban area of São Paulo, the Jaraguá State Park has become famous for the spectacular views of the city it affords. An excellent picnic spot, Jaraguá State Park is also extremely popular among hikers for the numerous trails on offer. The numerous antenna towers found at the peak are slightly unusual, but take nothing away from the natural beauty of the park.
A stunning part of the Atlantic rainforest, Parque Estadual da Cantareira spans 7916.52 hectares (19562.15 acres) and is a gem of the city's natural treasures. The protected area was developed for conservation purposes and has a fantastic variety of rare plant life, as well as exotic animals and birds. A perennial hangout for conservationists and naturalists, it’s worth a visit just to marvel at all the natural beauty.
Horto Florestal, also known as Parque Estadual Alberto Löfgren is one of Sao Paulo's biggest nurseries. They have the special Arboretum Trail which has lush Japanese pine, Brazilian pine and rosewood, and if you are lucky you can even spot a few wild animals. Their recreational area conducts exciting boat rides touring the entire nursery. You could also engage in a fun train tour of the nursery along with your young ones. For further information on the trails and boat rides check their website.
