Colonel Robert A. Smith Monument
Rush Island Bend Road
Munfordville, KY 42749
A Civil War memorial dedicated to Col. Robert A. Smith and his regiment, the Colonel Robert A. Smith Monument was built in 1885. This 25 feet (7.62 meters), limestone stone pillar was a tribute by James Smith, the slain colonel's brother and was erected at the site where he supposedly died. Etched from a single stone it stands second to Cleopatra's Needle which the largest of its kind in the nation. Located on a private property, the iron fenced monument was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
