Stone Fort Museum is located on the campus of the Stephen F. Austin State College. Built in 1936, it is the reconstructed replica of the 18-century Old Stone Fort in Nacogdoches. At two stories, it was the tallest building in town at the time of its construction, and donned several roles before being demolished. The museum showcases an array of interesting exhibitions for a glimpse of the local heritage.
The Depot Museum Complex houses 11 historic structures from Rusk County's past, including an 1843 log cabin, a syrup mill, an outhouse, a dog trot home, a sawmill, and an oil derrick. Clustered on four acres, the oldest log cabin and only outhouse with historical marker in the state. The Children's Discovery Center offers 200 activities for children ages five to ten.
Operated by the Texas Forestry Association, this is the only forestry museum in Texas and one of the largest in the United States.
Housed in a 1905 vintage church, the museum offers a permanent collection of art representing the character, history, and herritage of this part of East Texas, as well as art, science, and history exhibits on loan from many major museums.
