This stunning golf course is only minutes away from downtown Norfolk, making it the perfect place to make your golfing escape. It affords stunning views of the coastline and ocean and has challenging play that is suitable for all levels. The course was designed by Lester George, one of golf's best known course designers; it was initially private, and frequented only by the very rich, until the City of Norfolk restored the course and aimed to raise it to championship level. »Elizabeth River Trail – Atlantic City Spur

This fascinating trail is built on an old railroad right-of-way and it passes through an interesting part of modern Norfolk and some of its heritage sites. Walkers can visit the Norfolk Fort, where several early 19th-century buildings still survive, including a dungeon. The trail winds by the waters of Hampton Roads, giving walkers a chance to see ships and tankers, not to mention various birds and other indigenous wildlife. It's a great walk to do at any time of year and is completely free.

»Sleepy Hole Golf Course

This legendary 18 hole, par 72 championship public golf course is located at Sleepy Hole Park on the Nansemond River and it has hosted eight LPGA Tour events, as well as served as a venue for many prestigious amateur tournaments. The course features tree-lined fairways and large greens and includes a driving range, practice bunker, chipping area, pro shop, and snack bar.

Rowena's produces more than just jam! For January to October, visitors can tour the factory to see how Rowena's jams and jellies are produced; just be sure to book your tour in advance for just $2. It is also a popular tea room that has full English tea Thursday-Saturday. Choose from a selection of finger sandwiches, treats like pound cake, scones with their special jams or curd, and, of course, a pot of tea of your choice. The on-site gift shop (open Monday-Saturday) sells a variety of Rowena's sweet treats, or if you can't make it into the store, you can always order online and get your baked goods and jams delivered directly to your door.

»Victory Rover

See Norfolk by water as well as by sea on one of the Victory Rover Naval Base Cruises. This two hour narrated tour departs from Nauticus and cruises through Hampton Roads Harbor and on the Elizabeth River to give you a glimpse of the Naval Base from this aquatic view point. You will sail past submarines, aircraft carriers and other impressive military vehicles and installations. The interior of the boat is air conditioned and there is also a gift shop and snack bar. »USS Wisconsin

Part of the Nauticus Maritime Center, the USS Wisconsin came to Norfolk in 2000. The ship is over 60 years old, first launched in 1943, and is one of the largest battleships ever built by the US Navy. Children and history buffs especially love it, and docents are placed in various spots on board to answer any questions about the ship's colorful history.

»James River Bridge Fishing Pier

One of the longest fishing piers on the East Coast, this pier is open from April through November. Excellent fishing opportunities for croaker and spot are available year round, while striped bass, flounder, grey trout, and red drum are caught seasonally. A bait shop is also on site.
