»Pretty Lights / Bassnectar

December 28, 2014

Pretty Lights is the brainchild of multi-talented producer extraordinaire Derek Vincent Smith. His ability to seamlessly create songs from sampling sections of erstwhile tunes has risen the Ft. Collins, Colorado-based musician to a high pedestal few in the electronic music scene that few could ever dream of. Smith is able to make his live shows unique and spontaneous with the occasional aid of a live drummer who helps add a degree of spontaneity to the Pretty Lights live sound. Although Smith released his debut LP, Taking Up Your Precious Time, in 2006, it took a few years of national touring for his Pretty Lights project to catch momentum and attract a wide swath of fans and listeners.

»Bassnectar and Pretty Lights Sunday

December 28, 2014 7:00 PM

If there's a name that commands respect amid the modern electronic music scene it's undoubtedly Bassnectar. The San Francisco Bay Area-based beat mixer extraordinaire is one of the more predominant figures in the modern electronic genre and consistently manages to change and evolve his sound as time and technology permit. Bassnectar, or Lorin Ashton, describes his sound as "omni-tempo maximalism" --a slightly ambiguous term that was created to pinpoint the myriad of sounds Bassnectar employs in his music. The various genres he regularly samples typically center around ragtime, punk rock, gangsta rap, Balkan gypsy music, death metal and dub.

»Lotus / Galaxy Dynamite

December 29, 2014 8:00 PM

Lotus is a band that isn't afraid to experiment with its sound. The five-piece outfit formed in 1999 when students of Goshen College in Indiana decided to band together and create a style of music with no clear sonic direction. The result? A forward thinking style of genre breaking music that pulls heavily from the rock, electronic and jazz worlds. Since its inception, Lotus has dedicated itself to an ardent touringschedule, helping it become well-known for its jam-heavy live performances.
