Art clubs during the school year are for all ages. Please register online at, or by using the Eventbrite app. Activities begin at 1:30 p.m., and the club is an open studio format, so you may use the full time allotted or leave when you finish your project. K-12 Art Clubs are funded by a City of Auburn K-12 Arts Education Outreach Grant. JAN. 11: STILL-LIFE SCULPTURES After taking a look at Still Life with Papayas and Clementines by Beth Lipman in our permanent collection, well create sculptural still-life compositions with unusual materials. FEB. 8: METAL DRAWING Using metal-tipped drawing implements and prepared surfaces, well make delicate, detailed drawings, just like Victor Koulbak. MARCH 15: KEEP ON TRUCKIN Expressionist paintings of trucks by John Himmelfarb will give us some ideas on how to paint various vehicles. Dont go down the road feeling bad when you could be a sugar magnolia at JCSM. APRIL 12 SPRING WINDMILLS Connecting to the Common Book Program on campus, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, well construct our own windmills.

Third Thursday Poetry Series (Spring)

JCSM partners with the Third Thursday Poetry Series for an evening of jazz, food, and art. As the name suggests, guests are welcome to come and enjoy extended gallery hours and readings by selected poets on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. The Museum Café is open from 5 to 8 p.m. for tapas service. The jazz trio, Cullars Improvisational Rotation, opens for the readings with a shorter set from 6 to 7 p.m. This program has been made possible by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. JAN. 15: KYES STEVENS Kyes Stevens is a poet, small-time farmer/gardener and founder and director of the Alabama Prison Arts + Education Project in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University. She earned a MA and MFA at Sarah Lawrence College. Her poems have appeared in several journals, including the Blue Collar Review and Poetry Southeast. FEB. 19: JERICHO BROWN Jericho Brown is on the faculty at Emory University, where he teaches poetry. Brown is the recipient of the Whiting Writers Award and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Radcliffe Institute at Harvard University, the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, and the Krakow Poetry Seminar in Poland. His poems have appeared in journals and anthologies including The American Poetry Review, The Believer, jubilat, Oxford American, Ploughshares, A Public Space, Tin House, and 100 Best African American Poems. His first book, PLEASE, won the American Book Award. MAR. 19: JOANIE MACKOWSKI Joanie Mackowskis collections of poems are The Zoo and View from a Temporary Window. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University, was Stegner Fellow in Poetry at Stanford University, and received a PhD from the University of Missouri. A professor at Cornell University, she has worked as a French translator, a journalist in the San Francisco Bay Area, and a juggler. She is the winner of the 2003 Kate Tufts Discovery award and the 2008 Writer Magazine/Emily Dickinson award. APR. 16: CHRISTINA STODDARD Christina Stoddard is the author of Hive, winner of the Brittingham Prize in Poetry and forthcoming in 2015 from the University of Wisconsin Press. Her poems have appeared in various journals including Tupelo Quarterly, DIAGRAM, and Spoon River Poetry Review. Originally from Tacoma, Washington, Stoddard received her MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she was the Fred Chappell Fellow. She is a contributing editor at Cave Wall, and in 2014 she joined the staff of Tupelo Quarterly as an associate editor. She is the managing editor of an economics and decision theory journal. MAY 21: NICK NORWOOD Nick Norwood is the author of the poetry collections The Soft Blare and A Palace for the Heart and the fine press book Wrestle, which he produced in collaboration with the artist and master printer Erika Adams. His poems have appeared widely in such journals as Western Humanities Review, Southwest Review, Paris Review, Wallace Stevens Journal, and others. He teaches at Columbus State University.

Texas-based band Whiskey Myers is a country rock outfit that was formed in 2008. With Southern rock and roll edge, the band earned a quick local following and a contract with Smith Entertainment before the release of its 2008 debut album, Road of Life. Whiskey Myers expanded its reach to other parts of the US with an extensive touring schedule as well as its follow-up record Firewater, which was released with Wiggy Thump Records in 2011.
