Founded as a performance space for one local dance and theater presenter, this small and versatile loft space divested its ownership among a dozen local arts groups in 1999. The intimate space has hosted performances by local, national and international artists in dance, chamber music, folk music, theater, performance art, avant-garde productions and more. While you can expect some type of event here on most weekends, the quality of performances ranges from outstanding to abysmal. Concerts by the Third Chair Chamber Players as well as dance performances presented by the Wagon Train Project are always enthusiastically received by a full house.
With a tiered geometry of glass, stone and twinkling lights, this monstrous arts center resembles a landlocked luxury liner in the heart of downtown Lincoln. While lacking the pomp of old style concert halls, the three stages of this acoustically impressive modern hall provide audiences with a very broad range of entertainment. Past performances have included Broadway productions, celebrity appearances, symphonies, dance performances, lectures, jazz concerts and much more. Located on the University of Nebraska Campus, this two-screen theater is the first of its kind. The theater is named after its benefactor Mary Riepma Ross and screens a wide variety of experimental films, features, documentaries and foreign cinema. The building also includes laboratories, editing suites, offices and classrooms which are used by students of the Film and New Media Program. The two theaters can seat 236 and 106 respectively and are equipped with state of the art digital projectors which provide an enjoyable viewing experience.
