One of the finest zoo sites in the entire Illinois is located in its Decatur city, in the name of the Scovill Zoo. The historical zoo was established in 1967. It has immense monumental value and stands as one among the 210 zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It is swanked by approximately 500 animals and 96 distinct species. What started off as a farm site, gained immense significance post its conversion into a zoo. The zoo brags of a wide array of animals, birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and fish. It is a fantastic site for some recreational activity across all ages.
This Italiante home was built in 1874 and features Oglesby's, U.S. Senator and three-time governor of Illinois, original library which has been restored with furnishings of the Gilded age.
Stately brick mansion built in 1876, the year of the United States centennial. The fully restored landmark is known for its woodwork, elegant fireplaces, plasterwork, and etched and stained glass.
Long Creek Vineyards Winery is a vineyard on the rolling hills of Long Creek. They offer wine tasting on Fridays from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 12 to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 5 p.m.
