Austin is the capital and fourth largest city of Texas, known for its live music scene and eccentric reputation within a mostly conservative state. Initially founded after the Vice President of the Republic of Texas conducted a buffalo trip to the area, Austin's tranquil waterways, pleasant rolling hills, and location at the center of several prominent waterways and settler trails made it a compelling location for the ultimate location of the state's capital. After the University of Texas at Austin was founded in 1883, the town experienced a rapidly diversifying population as college students and professors mixed with blue collar workers and locals. Today, the city is world famous for its music scene, containing not only the most live music venues per capita in the country, but also several prominent music and technology festivals that bring visitors across the globe to this quirky college capital town.
