»Enter Shikari

April 01, 2015 7:00 PM

English band Enter Shikari is not afraid to experiment - they can oscillate between the angsty riffs loved by post-hardcore fans and breakdown with a jungle ragga beat. Spontaneity and innovation is crucial to the sound and image of Enter Shikari, who are known for really high energy shows. With elements of R&B, hardcore, techno and pop, this is one melting pot of a band.

Even though Texas-born singer/songwriter Jana Hunter has been a permanent fixture of the indie folk scene for quite some time, she has never really received the public acceptance that she truly deserves. In the past she has recorded as a solo artist but in 2010, she formed a band and released a studio album of lo-fi recordings that went over surprisingly well with critics. Hunter's haunting croon is one of her strong suits and she is able to perfectly harness it at times during peak moments of her songs.

Adapted from Gregory Maguire's novel of the same name, Wicked re-tells the story of The Wizard of Oz from the point of view of Elphaba and Glinda, two ofthe witches of Oz. According to this version of the famous story, the wicked witch of the west is a misunderstood character whose complex childhood and dramatic history with several of the story's beloved characters, particularly the Wizard of Oz himself, have attributed to her "wicked" reputation. Written primarily for adults, Wicked raises questions about our contemporary ethical standards.
