    »Memphis

    October 21, 2014 6:00 PM

Loosely based on real events, Memphis tells the love story of a white disc jockey named Huey Calhoun and a black singer named Felicia Farrell. Set in a segregated America in the 1950s, the musical comments on the politics of the era as the couple fights to stay together. Although Memphis debuted on Broadway in 2009, the show made its premiere in 2002 at the New Works Festival in California and was produced in theaters across the country before finally making its way to New York.

    »Fetch Clay, Make Man

    October 21, 2014 7:30 PM

It was a pairing so strange it could only be true. "Fetch Clay, Make Man" tells the story of the remarkable relationship between Muhammad Ali and Stepin Fetchit. Set mostly in 1965, Ali -- who until his recent membership into the Nation of Islam was known as Cassius Clay -- is winning both bouts in the boxing ring and arguments about the ability and dignity of African Americans. Meanwhile, the faded Fetchit represents an older, uglier era. Having once made millions playing racist stereotypes on the silver screen in the '20s, '30s and '40s, the truly talented actor is now broke and half-forgotten. Yet, in the days leading up to one of Ali's most anticipated matchups, the prizefighter and the movie star form an unlikely and revealing friendship.

    »Moon Taxi

    October 21, 2014 8:00 PM

Moon Taxi is a Nashville-based outfit that plays jam-tinged folk and progressive rock. A popular live entity, the band performs with a sound and stage presence that recalls some of the classic rock that came out of the 1970s. Swirling guitar solos, a touch of country twang and shifty song directions make the always up-tempo five-piece a solid contribution to the jam rock community. Following the success of its debut album, Moon Taxi released a live album in 2011, sprinkled with unreleased tracks and entitled Live Ride.

    October 21, 2014 7:30 PM

Steve Poltz is a Canadian-born folk singer/songwriter based in San Diego whose success as a founding member of the indie rock band The Rugburns was somewhat overshadowed by his work with famed folk pop singer Jewel during the late 1990s. Poltz would release several critically-acclaimed albums after his debut album One Left Shoe was released in 1998, which, in conjunction with his work with Jewel and The Rugburns, earned him the title of "San Diego's Most Influential Artist of the Decade" at the 2000 San Diego Music Awards.

    »Colony House and Knox Hamilton

    October 21, 2014 7:00 PM

Based in Franklin, Tennessee, Colony House is an indie rock band that's made up of three long-time friends, brothers Caleb and Will Chapman and Scott Millis. Named after an apartment complex that was home to all three of its members, the band crafts patient songs that often begin in a sparse, spacey manner before building up into anthemic, shout-a-long compositions.
