Located less than 50 miles from Baltimore, and run by a non-profit organization, the Montgomery County Fairgrounds were set up in 1949 with just 12 buildings but now have 42 buildings. Originally agricultural shows used to be held here where farmers brought forth their best livestock and produce however, in recent years, a number of trade shows, art & craft festivals and private banquets have been held. Thousands of volunteers are hired to manage each event and look into details like house-keeping, security, administration, parking, catering etc.
The War Memorial Building was acquired by the Shepherdstown Men's Club in the year 1947 and given its present name, to honor the dead of the World War II. The place has been refurbished several times since then and has taken over several roles. Now, the War Memorial Building is used as an eclectic events space to conduct the meetings and events of the club. The place is also rented out for private parties and celebrations.
