Amidst 50 acres (20 acres) in Garden City, the Lee Richardson Zoo is a great recreational spot in town. It provides an array of activities including a walking track, playgrounds for children, picnic areas, animal exhibits and shaded avenues. The entry to the zoo is free of cost and it is accessible throughout the week. The zoo has a diverse range of animals, mammals, amphibians, insects, arachnidan and birds to boast of. The red panda cubs are a must watch. It also aims at dispatching knowledge and information through guided tours, education center programs, summer camps, safaris and an efficient resource library.
Finnup Park is Garden City's largest park, and it's the perfect spot to enjoy a sunny day in the city. Kids will love playing on one of the three playgrounds while the rest of the family can explore the whole 110 acres. Make sure you bring a picnic to the park, with six picnic areas and nine barbecue grills you'll be able to find the ideal spot to eat. This park also has a lot of other attraction on it, including the zoo and the Finney County Historical Museum.
A wildlife game reserve situated on 3,670 acres of land just south of Garden City, the Finney Game Refuge is home to such High Plains natives as lesser prairie chickens, deer, ground squirrels, mourning doves, pheasants, quail, rabbits, box turtles and the oldest publicly owned bison herd in Kansas.
