The Grand Rapids Symphony has brought musical excellence and creativity to the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan since 1930. Music Director David Lockington leads the orchestra each year in eight different concert series, all designed to stimulate the imagination. The symphony is known for interactive and lively performances infused with pop culture, making concerts of both classical and contemporary music accessible to all audiences. The Grand Rapids Symphony is deeply invested in community engagement and holds its annual concert, "Symphony with Soul," to feature both local and national African-American artists. A portion of the proceeds goes into the "Young, Gifted & Black Scholarship Fund," a scholarship created by the Symphony in 2005 to support musical training for African American youth in Grand Rapids.

    »Jackson Browne

    July 13, 2014 6:30 PM

After breaking onto the burgeoning Greenwich Village folk rock scene in the early-1970s, Jackson Browne managed to become one of the champions of the genre and crusaders for its inclusion into the listening mainstream. Working more as a man behind the scenes, Browne is responsible for some of the genre's most influential hits, including songs off of Nico's Chelsea Girl album, The Eagles' breakthrough hit "Take It Easy," and multiple songs made famous by The Byrds. Though his solo work never gained him immense fame and his popularity has faded with time, Browne is nevertheless considered a crucial figure for contemporary music and is well respected by musicians everywhere.

    »Gavin Degraw

    July 14, 2014 6:30 PM

Gavin DeGraw attended Berklee College, one of the most respected music institutions in the United States, and writes all his own songs--a rare feat for many modern pop stars. Though he developed a following playing in small Manhattan venues, eventually opening in the roots-Americana venue The National Underground with his brother, DeGraw received his break when teen drama One Tree Hill chose his song "I Don't Want to Be" as its theme song. His fame has only grown from this, and DeGraw continues to release hit alternative pop-rock anthems.
