Trying to define what constitutes music is an abstract concept for many people. For the seminal 20th century composer John Cage, the idea of sound composition and defining noise actually led to an inventive and experimental style involving creating canvases of sound. Known best for his 1952 composition 4'33" (a three movement piece performed without a single note being played) and his creation of the prepared piano (a regular piano with objects threaded between the piano strings), Cage is one of the more avant-garde composers to have ever lived.

Gogobot NYC Travel Enthusiasts: Norfolk Nights
Back RoomJanuary 29, 2015 7:30 PM
102 Norfolk Street
New York, NY 10002
Its 7:29 PM on January 29th 1921. The sun already set as it is expected to do during these long winter nights. We crave 2 things tonight: warmer days and hooch to quench our thirst during this dismal era, but is it really dismal? We found a solution to uplift our spirits. It waits in the dark shade of Norfolk Street between the hustle and bustle of Houston and Delancey. Where the jazz rhythms are faint and touch our breath in the cool air, but where is it coming from? The Backroom, one of two speakeasies that strives to become a place of vivid cheer now and a Manhattan legacy in the future. Interested in joining the ambiance? Come meet us at The Backroom where will lounge in secrecy from prohibition and drink from teacups and brown paper bags among the warmth of dark wood and red velvet. Regardless of the barware, the first drink is on us.  Just to make it more enticing we will be giving away a $100 Hyatt gift card to the fellow Gogobotter with the most NYC reviews on Gogobot in January. Here are the guidelines    1) Only Gogobot users (www.gogobot.com) who RSVPd for the Norfolk Nights event on the Gogobot events page (http://www.gogobot.com/events/92) can participate in the contest. 2) The gogobotter with the most authentic reviews for NYC hotels, restaurants, and attractions will win the prize. 3) Reviews must include at least 1 postcards. 4) Reviews must be at least 5 sentences. 5) Creativity is highly encouraged. 6) Prize: $100 Hyatt Hotel & Resorts gift card. 7) Tracking will be performed on the Gogobot website of the users who RSVPd for the event. 8) Contest duration: From January 1/1 - January 1/25 11:59 PM.    Details are in the following link: http://www.gogobot.com/events/92.  No furs are allowed at The Back Room and please remember to dress to impress (there's a dress code but not strict). For additional information you may contact Gogobot NYC Ambassador, Scott Hampton at (860) 416-1971 or danielodyssey1@gmail.com.    Lastly, the person with the best Prohibition Era outfit will receive a 2nd drink round on us.   Cheers,   Gogobot NYC
