The Inner Harbor is a harbor and neighborhood in central Baltimore. Although Baltimore has been a major seaport since the 1700s, the Inner Harbor has always been too shallow for large ships, and eventually became more of a tourism focal point. Inner Harbor, in addition to the actual scenic harbor itself, is home to many major attractions including the Baltimore Aquarium, Baltimore Maritime Museum and the Maryland Science Center. Visitors can take harbor cruises, visit the 27th floor Observation Level of the World Trade Center or relax at one of the many restaurants in the area. The harbor is considered one of the great successes of urban planning of the 20th Century in the United States.
