One way to beat the Kansas City summer heat is to venture to the city's biggest water park. Refreshments are available on the park premises and individual season passports are also available.
The greater Kansas City metro area which includes both Kansas and Missouri is filled with water parks. The Schlitterbahn happens to be in Kansas, but is popular throughout both states for fun in the sun during the sweltering, humid Midwest summers. The newest feature here is the aptly named Verrückt (roughly translated from German as "Insane"), it is a 600ft. slide that extends over two breathtaking drops while carrying four, very scared passengers on a raft! Despite this fearful ride, there are plenty of other rides for kids like 'Kinderhaven', great for small toddlers and 'Banzai Pipeline' for older, more experienced swimmers. Check website for more details on events, party packages, birthdays, etc.
Located between the Municipal Auditorium and Marriott Hotel, Barney Allis Plaza has a colorful history. As a park, the Plaza was a congregation point for festivals, street fairs, and carnivals like the 'Elvis Parade' every August. Barney Allis Plaza has since been remodeled into a tennis court. Though not all of Kansas City agrees with this change in landscape, the Barney Allis Plaza Fountains nevertheless create a picturesque backdrop to the sporting spectacles. The question begs to be asked, "Wonder what the Cows On Parade will make of it?"
