»Cumberland Island National Seashore Museum

From military uniforms, artillery and artifacts from the last battle of the War of 1812 to displays of the luxurious lifestyles of the Carnegies of New York, their family and friends at their winter retreat and 59-room mansion called Dungeness on Cumberland Island. The museum also exhibits how early Native Americans and African Americans lived in the area. This museum is a treasure of an attraction regarding the history and development of St. Marys and Cumberland Island. There is a small gift shop with books, guides and other memorabilia regarding the town. Admission is free and there is on-site parking. - Natasha Lawrence

»St. Mary's Submarine Museum, Inc

Just a short drive north of Jacksonville in southern Georgia, you'll learn more about the history of these underwater crafts, including the history of submarine use in the United States, all here at St. Mary's. The museum displays a large collection of memorabilia, military models, photos, and even a maritime library. Browse through the gift shop for hats, shirts, gifts and submarine patches. »Cumberland Island National Seashore

A 45-minute boat ride from historic St. Marys aboard the Cumberland Queen will take you to the Gilded Age of the wealthy Carnegie family and 59-room Dungeness, their 1880s winter retreat. Forty square miles of beaches, salt marshes, bike trails, a camp ground, a maritime forest, historic buildings and about 150 feral horses draw thousands of visitors each year. Maintained by the National Park Service, guided tours of the grounds are included with the admission fee. The Sea Camp Ranger Station offers a children's program on ecology, wildlife and island history. Bring a picnic lunch, water and a camera.

Beautiful paintings and creative sculptures await your attention at this gallery, which is conveniently located on Center Street in beautiful downtown Fernandina Beach, on scenic Amelia Island. A co-op gallery of Nassau County artists, this attractive collection features a variety of mixed media works, from watercolors and acrylics to pottery, stained glass and woodcuts. Works from more than 52 artists are on display and there is no charge for admission.

»Goodyear Cottage

Located in the 240-acre Jekyll Island Club Historic District, this 1906 Italian style mansion was built for Frank Henry Goodyear of New York as a winter retreat for his family. As one of the many "cottages" built by the elite wealthy at the turn of the 20th century, the Goodyear cottage is now the home of the Jekylll Island Art Association, a non-profit organization that promotes local arts as an art gallery with classes and workshops, monthly exhibits, a gift shop, concerts and other programs open to the public.
