The South Plains Fair started all the way back in 1914, and just like today, was a great place to meet new people and have fun. Although the fair has expanded quite a bit, it is still a community event that helps support and sustain the Lubbock economy. Food fair, with lots of fried delicacies, will be available as will a children's petting zoo and a carnival filled with fun rides. Competitions include livestock judging for cattle, swine, goats, poultry, dogs, and rabbits. There will also be a barrel racing competition, and there is an entire "Woman's Building", although why such divisions textiles, crafts, crocheting, knitting, and baking is only for the women it is hard to understand. Youth competitions are also present, as is a flower show. So if you are looking to see the best west Texas has to offer, look no further than the South Plains Fair.

Despite recently dabbling in the world of film directing, Rob Zombie (born Robert Bartleh Cummings) still has deep connections to the music world. His distinct style of heavy metal rose him to prominence in the late 1990s after he broke from New York based heavy metal group White Zombie in 1998. And though it's more frequent to see the musician behind the camera, directing films like the Halloween remake or House of 1,000 Corpses,Zombie still makes occasional musical appearances and rocks out just as hard as he ever did.

Social Distortion is punk rock band from Southern California that was on the forefront of the hardcore punk explosion of the 1980s. The band recorded its debut album Mommy's Little Monster, and released it in 1983, just before the 1994 premiere of the documentary Another State of Mind, the seminal punk rockumentary that featured the band on its 1982 tour. Both releases thrust the band onto the national punk scene, though front man Mike Ness's drug problems forced Social Distortion to disband in 1985. The breakup was only the first of many times Social Distortion would dissolve, though the band has always reformed with different lineups and that managed to produce quality music with Ness always at the helm. By contemporary punk standards, the music of Social Distortion might best be described as punk-inspired alternative rock with a little old fashioned rock'n'roll tossed in the mix, but the band will always be remembered as a pioneer of the Los Angeles hardcore punk scene.
