A liberal arts college, Sewanee: The University of the South is owned by southern dioceses of the Episcopal Church. This coeducational college has many excellent facilities for its students to avail, among which extracurriculars are rather significant. The Lake Cheston Amphitheater is an outdoor performance space where many of the college's cultural activities take place. The institution's annual music festival, Sewaneroo, is held here.

The Jack Daniel's Invitational is one of the most prestigious barbecue competitions in the world. Teams from across the United States and around the world compete in the categories of Pork Ribs, Pork Shoulder, Beef Brisket and Chicken. Live entertainment, games and children's games will round out this day of fun. Held in October.
This event will feature a variety of art exhibits in numerous medias including photography, oils, watercolors, sculptures, and upscale crafts. There will also be an antique car show during this event.

Smokin' in McMinnville is a family friendly BBQ festival featuring live entertainment, food & beverages, children's play zone, sports competitions, assorted vendors and access to the fabulous Gilley Swimming Pool. Backyard grill masters and 40 professional Kansas City Barbeque Society teams from around the U.S. compete for $12,000 in total prize money in this TN State Championship Competition. Held in August.
First held in 1939, this annual event is now a huge part of Tennessee history. The large event is held each August and ends on the Saturday before Labor Day. The Celebration is a festival of family fun that includes a barn decorating contest, dog show, trade fair and the famous equine competition.
