»Josh Abbott Band

January 30, 2015 9:00 PM

In an American music market dominated by pop country music, alt country bands have an increasingly challenging time carving out their own niche. That challenge has proven to be seemingly simple for Texas' Josh Abbott Band, which has amassed a loyal following of country lovers who don't necessarily subscribe to what's at the top of the Billboard country charts. With that said, the band's 2010 album She's Like Texas was in the top 50 albums on these same charts, proving that even if your not chart-bound, artistic vision and commercial success aren't mutually exclusive.

»Moon Taxi

January 30, 2015 9:00 PM

Moon Taxi is a Nashville-based outfit that plays jam-tinged folk and progressive rock. A popular live entity, the band performs with a sound and stage presence that recalls some of the classic rock that came out of the 1970s. Swirling guitar solos, a touch of country twang and shifty song directions make the always up-tempo five-piece a solid contribution to the jam rock community. Following the success of its debut album, Moon Taxi released a live album in 2011, sprinkled with unreleased tracks and entitled Live Ride.

»Idx Memphis 2015

January 31, 2015 7:00 PM

Public awareness campaigns aim to reveal a need to a community. For the children who have fallen through the cracks of their communities, awareness isnt enough. To acknowledge the hurting children in our communities isnt enough if we continue to overlook them. idX Memphis is an exciting evening with Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon and political figure Dr. Ben Carson. He believes empowering underserved children through education leads to more complete and unified communities. This mission has gained him national traction and caused some to speculate he will be the next Republican presidential nominee. As the evening with Dr. Carson unfolds, it will hold much more than dinner and a photo-op; it is an evening where identities will be restored to the children in our communities who have been hurt and left to fend for themselvesthe abused, the neglected, the forgotten. idX Memphis will graduate from just raising awareness about neglected children to calling the influential members of our community to action. Action can be a donation, but it can be so much moreits everything that happens BEYOND awareness. Transform knowledge and awareness into action and change. Restore identity to the forgotten around you. For more information, contact Katharine Hewlett at (662) 328-5704 ext. 166 idxevent.com/memphis

January 31, 2015 8:00 PM

Texas singer-songwriter Tracy Lawrence has been in the major league country music scene since the early 1990s, virtually carving the way for many of today's biggest country pop stars. Lawrence seems to be content with his veteran status as a major label staple, churning out studio albums on the regular and keeping with his general aesthetic of Christian-themed, blue-collar celebration music.

»Jerry Lee Lewis

January 31, 2015 8:00 PM

During the '50s Jerry Lee Lewis was one of the big names to emerge out of Sun Records. His peers included cats like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and a lot of other seminal musicians. Lewis played super early rock n' roll and he had a fire inside his belly that was hard to extinguish and his piano playing was unmatched. Lewis would have gone one to be one of the more respected singer/songwriters of his generation if his reputation wasn't marred by the press and public finding out that he married his first cousin, who was 13 years old at the time of marriage. The eventual fall out caused catastrophic damage to Lewis' career and he would not regain prominence until the later end of his life cycle.
