    »Drowning Pool

    October 22, 2014 7:30 PM

Drowning Pool became a household name on the metal circuit in a matter of months in 2001, thanks to a well-received series of Ozzfest performances and the huge success of "Bodies," the band's debut single. The nu metal band formed in Dallas in 1996, and with constant touring began gathering a local following of heavy music fans. After "Bodies"--and its now oft-repeated chorus of "let the bodies hit the floor"--spread all over alternative rock radio, the band seemed poised to dethrone some of the genre's more prominent heavy-hitters. Unfortunately, however, lead singer Dave Williams died of heart disease just a year later and Drowning Pool was forced to evaluate its options. Ultimately, the band soldiered on, running through a couple of new lead singers before settling into a solidified new lineup. The group released its eponymous fourth album in 2010 and continues to tour regularly.

    »New Orleans Film Festival

    October 22, 2014

Each year, the New Orleans Film and Video Society selects world-renowned films from local and international directors to preview at the Big Easy's premier film event. As a rule, every event in New Orleans eventually leads to an excuse to party and this festival is no exception. Galas and post-screening parties at the 'House of Blues-Contemporary Arts Center' wind down each day with the flavor of live local music, and plenty of alcohol. The festival runs annually for two weeks in October. Discounts on tickets are given to Film and Video Society members.

    »Macy Gray

Few singers are lucky enough to have a voice that's extremely recognizable and entirely representative of the vocalist's entire sonic ethos. Somehow Ohio-born singer/songwriter Macy Gray was born with one such voice and ever since she burst onto the scene with her smash hit single "I Try" off her 1999 debut album Oh How Life Is, Grey has become widely known amongst the general listening public for her raspy croon.
