Formed out of the remains of the stoner rock band Sleep, High On Fire is a heavy metal band from Oakland, CA that emerged in 1998. After the band debuted its stoner/doom metal style on its first album The Art of Self Defense, in 2000 its label Man's Ruin Records shut down, forcing High on Fire to make the switch to Relapse Records. With its new label, the band dropped its sophomore record Surrounded by Thieves, in 2002 and has since been steadily releasing records despite minor lineup changes. High On Fire released its sixth studio album De Vermis Mysteriis, in 2012.
