With the need to find a 10-pound alligator a home, The Creature Conservatory was created in 2005. This non-profit animal rescue and sanctuary has created an educational program around the exotic and domestic animals who now live there. By creating a connection with the animals, The Creature Conservatory hopes to inspire visiting children and students to learn about the earth's other inhabitants. The animals ambassadors are used as a teaching tool, encouraging a greater empathy and understanding towards them. The sanctuary hosts birthday parties, tours and field trips as well as individual visitors.
