    »She Keeps Bees

    September 16, 2014

She Keeps Bees is a New York-based and blues-inspired indie rock duo that was formed in 2006. The twosome recorded its first album in a bedroom, but the slightly sub-par production value manages to work to She Keeps Bees' advantage, as the DIY attitude of the band shines through in the music. The group's live shows highlight both musicians' knack for performing in front of audiences, and as the band continues to tour and release interesting recordings, its notoriety will undoubtedly continue to grow.

    »Fail/safe

    September 16, 2014 8:00 PM

Some plays push you to the edge of seat, but only "Fail/Safe" will leave you sitting on the brink of eternity. This world premiere from Strawdog Theatre Company takes you back to the Cold War at its absolute iciest. Adapted from Sidney Lumet's 1964 movie starring Henry Fonda, "Fail/Safe" effectively imagines a nightmare scenario where a systems failure threatens to trigger World War III. As time runs out, the President and his advisers scramble to find a strategy that will save the planet from a nuclear holocaust. Anderson Lawfer directs this new work based on the gripping novel by Professors Eugene Burdick and Harvey Wheeler at the Strawdog Theatre.

    »We Came As Romans

    September 16, 2014 7:00 PM

Because the Michigan based metalcore band We Came as Romans spouts positive messages in its music, many have commonly referred to the music the group makes as Christian. The band claims to be non-religious, though, and decries being labeled as such. One member of the group was quoted as saying, "Our music, as a whole, has a positive message to it, and there aren't a whole lot of bands with a positive message who aren't Christian bands." So, to review and set the record straight, We Came as Romans is not a Christian band but its lyrics are positive. If you're a fan of positive message post-hardcore music that is non-denominational, this band is for you.

    »The Doyle & Debbie Show

    September 16, 2014 7:30 PM

What happens when you hitch your star to a loose cannon? Well, in the case of "The Doyle & Debbie Show", hilarity ensues. Doyle Mayfield is a washed-up country star desperate to make a comeback after 30 years of certified has-been status. He's been through four wives and a few vocal collaborators -- each dubbed "Debbie" for the sake of the act -- and nothing's clicked. But when Doyle sees a single mother of three belting out a beautiful tune at a VFW hall he realizes he may have finally found the "Debbie" that could turn his life around. With the pipes of vintage country stars and acting chops to boot, Michael Accardo and Erin Parker deliver big laughs in "The Doyle & Debbie Show", with 16 original songs like "Barefoot and Pregnant," "Blue Stretch Pants" and "Harlequin Romance."

    »Spoon

    September 17, 2014 7:00 PM

Spoon first started making music in Austin, Texas in the mid-1990s and ever since then, the band has traversed an interesting trail of indie rock perils. The band has experienced line-up changes, label changes and various other cogs that have been thrown into the band's wheel of success. But difficulties aside, Spoon has managed to become one of the bands at the forefront of the modern indie rock movement and is regarded as one of the more solid musical acts of its generation.
