The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula is spread across 32 acres of land. This predominant museum is where you will find a treasure of objects and structures giving insights into the history of Western Montana. Exhibits rotate regularly, covering different topics.
More than 30,000 artifacts and 13 historic structures are featured at The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula. These structures include the Grant Creek Schoolhouse, St. Michael's Church, World War II Internment camp barracks, and a homestead cabin.
Created in 1995, to preserve Montana's aviation history, educate people about this kind of flying in the Rocky Mountains and commemorate Johnson Flying service, the Museum of Mountain Flying’s exhibits include a DC-3/C-47, Twin Beechcraft Model 18, HH-1H, Clark Special three, Jungster II and a 1930 Moth, an American built version of the De Havilland Tiger and Gypsy Moth.
The Missoula Art Museum or MAM is a public museum that houses around 6 exhibition spaces. On location is a library, a bookstore and an information lounge that enhances the learning experience. The museum has established its forte in contemporary art forms. It offers tours free of cost.
The Elk Country Visitor Center belongs to the conservation organization, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, which revolves around the conservation of Elk and its habitat. A visit to the visitor center would take you through the collections that showcases all there is to know about Elk, from the time of their origin to the present. Equipped with state-of-the-art theater, a world record elk mount collection and a wildlife diorama, the place aptly represents the non-profit foundation that has successfully conserved more than 5 million acres of natural habitat in North America.
