The Prairie Museum of Art + History is situated in an old farmland that consisted of a sod house, church, school and barn. The quaint buildings now house the museum exhibits, which narrate Colby's history through the centuries. The land surrounding the museum cottages are replete with thickly-growing Buffalo Grass and a walk through the barn reveals the High Plains region's agricultural history, through a plethora of old snapshots, farm vehicles and equipment. The temporary exhibits showcase the talents of upcoming local artists, and many of the sculptures, paintings and mixed media works reveal complex rural sensibilities. This museum also organizes educational programs and lectures for schools.
