The Mystery Of Edwin Drood

St. Louis, MO
Based on the Charles Dicken's unfinished novel of the same name, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, later shortened to Drood, is a murder mystery musical that debuted in 1985 as part of the New York Shakespeare Festival. After transferring to Broadway in 1986, the show became the first Broadway musical with multiple endings to be determined by audience voting. The Mystery of Edwin Drood took home five of its 11 Tony Award nominations including Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical. In contrast to Dicken's original work, the show takes on comedic and lighthearted tones through the chaos of its metatheatrical, multi-murderer murder mystery plot.

Shovels and Rope

4195 Manchester Ave
St. Louis, MO 63110
Shovels & Rope is a group that prides itself on simplicity. Based out of Charleston, South Carolina, the folk duo, comprised of Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent, uses two old guitars, a tin pan alley styled drum set (comprised of parts found at a junk yard), as well as harmonicas and heaps of vocals to create a style of music the two call "sloppy tonk." Shovels & Rope spent the majority of 2011 on the road, performing in various bars and music venues, where it was able to hone its approach before opting to record its debut album, which was released in 2012.
