The Jayhawks represents the athletic programs and intercollegiate teams of the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. As a member of the NCAA's Division I, the university competes in the Big 12 Conference. Kansas is probably best known for its men's basketball program which has won multiple national titles, including a victory over Memphis in the 2008 NCAA Tournament final. The university also supports a wide range of other men's and women's programs in sports such as baseball, football, golf, cross country, tennis, soccer, softball and volleyball. Notable Kansas alumni include Wilt Chamberlain (NBA), Paul Pierce (NBA) and Gale Sayers (NFL).

The Houston Rockets are professional basketball team and a member of the National Basketball Association. The Rockets were founded in 1967 and played four seasons in San Diego before relocating to Houston in 1971. Led by former first overall draft pick Hakeem Olajuwon, the Rockets won back-to-back NBA championships in 1993-94 and 1994-95. The Rockets currently compete in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference.

The Oklahoma City Barons is an American hockey franchise that competes in the American Hockey League. Founded in 1984 as the Nova Scotia Oilers, the team has changed cities and monikers several times over the years. Debuting as the Oklahoma City Barons at the start of the 2010 season, the team acts as the top affiliate to the NHL's Edmonton Oilers. Several NHL players, such as Jonathan Cheechoo, Justin Schultz and Yann Danis, have donned the Barons uniform and the team hosts its home games at the Cox Convention Center in downtown Oklahoma City.
