    It is no secret that the summer in OKC can be a very tumultuous experience, from deadly tornadoes to unbearable humidity, everyone here needs a little respite from time-to-time. That is where the Will Rogers Family Aquatic Center comes in, it is part public swimming pool as well as a fun water park. There are areas for both adults and children and the center also provides instructors that can help teach the young ones. Check website for details like seasonal opening times, lessons, swimming camps, etc.

    »Will Rogers Park & Garden Center

    The Will Rogers Park & Garden Center contains the Ed Lycan Conservatory, the Charles E. Sparks Rose Garden, the Margaret Annis Boys Arboretum and the Will Rogers Exhibition Center. The entire park is truly a sight to behold with its lush green fields that cover over 130 acres and tons of botanical wonders spread throughout its trails. Visitors and residents are always here on balmy summer evenings to watch the sunset or to take a leisurely stroll. For more sporty activities, the park also contains a Frisbee-golf course and it is the location for the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.

    »Remington Park Racing & Casino

    Nothing is more exciting than a day at the races, especially when your horse is winning on the track. In addition to watching the ponies run, you can enjoy fine dining at the on-site Silks Restaurant or catch the show from your own personal box seat in the Club One lounge. Check out their 'Twilight Thursdays', where you can place bets, sample appetizers and drink for one great low price. This place is also popular for the after work crowd, where people come to the Bricktown Brewery and Henry Hudson's Pub, both perfect spots to have a drink and not necessarily gamble.

    »Oklahoma City Zoo

    This zoo in OKC is consistently rated as one of the best zoos in the United States, home to nearly 3,000 animals, it definitely is one of the largest. Some featured exhibits include the Cat Forest and Lion Overlook, in which you can see lions, tigers, jaguars and leopards. The 'Great Escape' showcases gorillas, orangutans, chimpanzees and other primate life. One of the zoo's most popular attractions is 'Aquaticus', an aquarium extravaganza that features a dolphin and sea lion spectacle. The zoo is also very active in the community, it provides nature classes, labs, tours and 'Zoomobiles' for all ages. At the end of the day, guests usually catch the show under the stars at the Zoo Amphitheater.

    »Katy Trail

    The Katy Trail follows the former train tracks of old freighters that would rumble across the OKC region during the last century. Today, most of the 7.3 mile trail is unpaved and this might be why it is one of the most sought-after spots in the entire city for its tranquility and remoteness (even though you are still in the city). If you happen to need some peace and quiet, but don't want to wander off too far, then try the Katy Trail.

    »Lincoln Park Golf Course

    Just south of Remington Park you will find this beautiful public championship golf course. There are 30 sand traps and five water hazards on each of the 18-hole courses, and the slope rating is 120 on the east course, 121 on the west course. There is a driving range and putting green on which to practice. Also enjoy the restaurant, which serves beer as the only alcoholic beverage, or snack shop after a long day of golfing.

    »Hefner Lake & Park

    City dwellers consider this park to be one of their favorites and it is always bursting at the seams with people. This place has it all, there are playgrounds, picnic tables, soccer and softball fields, a golf course, and a nine-mile jogging and biking trail, it is easy to see why it's so packed. Most afternoons you can see kites or model airplanes flying high overhead and colorful sailboats cruising along Lake Hefner, which is adjacent to the park.

    »Lake Hefner Golf Course

    This well-designed public golf course sits on the south side of beautiful Lake Hefner. The obstacles like bunkers and ponds on each of the two 18-hole courses pose challenges that are not too difficult. If you want to practice, there are some par-three holes where you can hone your stroke. You can also practice on the driving range, where the shop provides putt and pitch greens as well as sand trap practice with the wedge.

    »State Fair Speedway

    For nearly 40 years, the Speedway has been providing fans with fast-paced racing excitement. And the drivers agree, the State Fair track has cultivated quite a reputation. Constructed of that distinctive Oklahoma red clay, the half-mile track often sees speeds of over 100 miles an hour. Factory stock, modified, pro stock and sprint races are held every Friday night, and several national racing events come to the grandstand throughout the season.

    »Myriad Botanical Gardens

    The Myriad Botanical Garden is a green oasis that offers space and serenity within the concrete urban sprawl of Oklahoma City's downtown. The gardens are spread across 17 acres (6.9 hectares), and the horticulturists often offer educational classes and workshops as well as just a place to relax. Upon entering, the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory contains more than 2000 species of plants and in addition to permanent species, the gardens display rotating exhibits such as orchids and more exotic plants throughout the year. The Grand Event Lawn in the outer gardens and the Water Stage on the lake are frequently used for events like concerts, theater and movie screenings year-round. To enter the Crystal Bridge Conservatory, there is an admission fee.

    The James E. Stewart Golf Course is a challenging nine-hole course intended for all, but perfect for beginners. It is part of the other public courses within the city and is one of the best.     »Stockyards City

    Stockyards City is a historical part of town that showcases all things Western. When settlers arrived, they used the area as a cattleyard and over the decades it became dotted with packing plants throughout. Today, the cattle market still functions as one of the largest in the world. The packing warehouses are gone, most are replaced with western wear shops and great restaurants, try the popular Cattlemen's Steakhouse, the steaks are outstanding. One of the highlights for guests is the ability to saunter out over a walkway to see the bovines mooing below in the National Stockyards Exchange. If you would like to see a place that played an integral role in the city's history, come down and check out this interesting neighborhood, you might even find that perfect cowboy hat!
