The six-piece newgrass outfit Railroad Earth is a New Jersey-based band that takes its name from the Jack Kerouac short story "October in the Railroad Earth." Formed in 2001, the band combines elements of Americana, bluegrass, rock and jazz but is primarily known as a jam band due to its live improvisation at shows. After recording a five track demo, the band immediately secured a spot at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and released its debut album The Black Bear Sessions. The Toasters w/ The Bishops

Though dozens of members have been replaced or recycled, Robert Hingley has consistently held The Toasters down as one of the longest running Ska bands in North America (having lasted now over 25 years in the industry). The band tasted minor commercial success in the early 1990's, because the type of music they were creating (brass-heavy, ruckus-rousing ska) was quite popular at the time. Though the titles, lyrics and messages of their songs were far from G-Rated, they were still, ironically enough, featured in television commercials for products like Coca-Cola, AOL and even Nickelodeon programming for children.

Omaha, NE 68104
Washington D.C. trio Jukebox the Ghost formed in 2003 during the hiatus of lead singer Ben Thornewill and guitarist Tommy Siegel's band The Sunday Mail. Taking its name from blending together a quote from Nabokov's novel Pnin and a Captain Beefheart song, the newly formed band began writing new material that focused on pop hooks and lyrical ingenuity, much like the band's namesakes. The band toured extensively upon the release of its first album in 2006, but received its big break with a surprisingly last minute invitation to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman in September of 2010.

Cold War kids is an indie rock group from Long Beach, California that was founded in 2004. Despite being labeled a “Christian band” by some critics, a damning title in rock and roll, the group has had a relatively large success with its characteristic sound that follows a classic recipe of rock infused blues with loud catchy guitar riffs and wailing vocals.
