Located on the campus of the University of South Carolina, the McKissick Museum can trace its origins way back to 1823 after Thomas Cooper sold his precious mineral collection to the university. Over the decades, the collection kept increasing due to generous contributions from patrons who gave freely of their political memorabilia, textiles, crafts, scientific specimens and more. The permanent collections include pottery, quilts and decorative art objects while the traveling collections are unique too. Check website for details.

Mann-Simons Cottage is one of the important landmarks in town. Now a museum, the tour takes you through the entire house and adjoining gardens; check out the collection, furniture and other artifacts from the nineteenth century.
