Cellar 6 is a showcase for St Augustine's burgeoning wine culture. As the name indicates, their cellar is more than amply stocked, and they are happy to arrange tastings as well as samples by glass or bottle. This is an excellent place to acquaint yourself with some of St Augustine's local vintages and to spend an evening checking out some hot local talents playing jazz or contemporary music.
The Tradewinds Lounge bills itself as the oldest club in the oldest city in America. It is located in a charming 18th Century building in historic Charlotte street and in season features nightly performances by local talent. The music tends towards the rock and roll Florida tropical beach bar style of entertainment, but there are also DJ's and Latin nights. The bar also features a full selection of drinks and a kitchen based around the usual constellation of the bar-food universe like hot wings, burgers, and jalapeno poppers.
This modest but cozy little bar takes full advantage of the adjoining courtyard as a venue for local performers. Most evenings and even afternoons feature local rock bands or individual musicians livening up the joint. The atmosphere her is one of local patronage despite its location in the tourist district and coming here may afford a chance to mingle with the natives.
As the name implies, this jazz bar specializes in one indulgence above all others: cigars. The cigars are as close to Cuban delights as one can find in the US (though the offerings are mostly Honduran or Dominican). The atmosphere is relaxed and mellow but can be lively depending on the weather, the time, and the act on stage. Again, as the name states, Jazz is the main musical course here, but other local talents can also be seen demonstrating their chops.
If you are heading to the Spanish Quarters or just browsing the shops in the Old City, you may want to stop by the Mill Top Tavern. Located at the old Water Wheel, the pub comes replete with wooden floors tables, open air dining and live music. You may want to start your meal with a munchie such as cheese sticks, Cajun chicken wings or Eggplant starters. For a main course, the restaurant also offers a wide variety of soups, sandwiches and salads.
With beers, burgers, and typical grill food, Cruisers is a fixture on historic St George St that caters to locals and tourists alike. A stop here in the afternoon makes a good lunch break, and a cocktail at the end of a day's sightseeing is enjoyable as well, with live music some evenings to provide some local color.
This Club is one of the few local venues focusing more on music and entertainment than food and drink. Though they do feature a bar and standard pub grub, the focus here is on the stage and the dance floor. A common host to local rock acts, solo musicians, and DJ nights, this is a great place to stop in for a late supper or drink before you dance the night away to Florida's hottest local talent.
Conch House is known for is its live music, hosted in a club suspended over the water. It is crowded on weekends when Reggae Sunday is particularly popular. With a Gilligan's Island/Swiss Family Robinson atmosphere, meals can be served outdoors in individual huts seating up to eight. An eclectic menu features seafood, pasta, chicken, steaks, ribs and some vegetarian dishes. A children's menu is available. The full bar offers a variety of mixed drinks and cold beer.
An intimate showplace for America's premier touring comics, this club is one of the best adult comedy club in Florida and they feature new talent every week. Shows are on Thursdays at 8:00 p.m., Fridays at 9:00 p.m., and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
Panama Hatties is something of a local institution. For a long time, it was the only sizeable restaurant so far North along St Augustine Beach, and so is now regarded as the grand dame of beachside eateries. The lovely terrace is spectacular when the weather cooperates, and often live music is on offer as well. The food is excellent, and features standbys such as burgers and salads as well as the best of contemporary Florida cuisine.
