Built in 1973, the Taylor Performing Arts Center has been the Missouri Southern State University's main center for various performing arts events. This acoustically splendid auditorium hosts concerts by various local and national artists/ bands throughout the year, which attracts a large number of music admirers in the city. University students gather here for rehearsals for drama, dances and other activities. Apart from performing arts events, the center hosts lectures and conferences related to the university. Post the tornado that destroyed the city in 2011, the center was the base for Disaster Recovery Center and hosted the memorial service which had country's President Barack Obama in attendance.
