Maxwells the Club is a cool urban club that could easily have been in New York or LA. It is very popular with single 20+ African-Americans looking to hook up or just party the night away. The clientèle at this club knows how to dress and expects the same from you. Maxwell's has 3 dance floors and plays everything from hip-hop, jazz, R&B and house. So, if you are ready for some heavy duty partying with some of the coolest people in town, head down to Maxwells' on a Saturday night.
Earlier a grocery store, International Ballroom is now huge among hard rock fans. Big names like 'Nine Inch Nails', 'Sex Pistols', 'Megadeth', 'Tool', 'Marilyn Manson' and 'Rage Against the Machine' have rocked this stage with some really memorable performances. Alcohol and memorabilia like t-shirts are sold at the venue. Although there is no seating arrangement, the crowd is usually more than pleased to stand and cheer for the bands. It is recommended to call before planning a visit to this venue as there are no fixed dates and timings for the shows held here.
Since 1983, numerous nationally-recognized comedians have performed on this stage. Many have appeared on Show time, HBO, A&E and other popular channels. An evening's entertainment usually consists of three or more comedians and an occasional hypnotist or ventriloquist. If you are a speed demon, ask about the comedy defensive driving class. There are several televisions placed inside The Mezzanine that would never let you miss even a second of your favourite sports being aired. Rest assured you will spend a newsy night as every night is excitingly eventful here. Karaoke, poker league, rockets game parties, trivia contests, UFC fights and dynamo events teamed up with cheap pizzas, burgers and martinis make Mezzanine a fun place to be at.
Cézanne is conveniently located above the popular Black Lab Pub. In the intimate, 40-seat venue you'll get a full-body jazz immersion experience. The performances are top-notch, and you can literally rub elbows with local, regional and national jazz greats. Keep your toes tapping to the lively music while sipping on a cocktail. It's the perfect place for a romantic evening, especially if you want to impress your date.
Like the Austin original, Houston's Continental Club sports the green and pink neon sign out front, the steel sign with the 1950s script lettering behind the stage and the "Mercury Man" hanging over the door frame. The club features home grown talent with roots, jazz and rock artists booked regularly. The main room has a capacity of 200 and is decorated with murals by Jacque de Lamar which depict scenes of Venice, Rome and Paris. Affixed behind the bar are pictures from the club's early years, when the Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller orchestras played there. The back room holds a 22-foot shuffleboard, along with pool tables and a second bar.
