This park was the former site of Fort Pierce that was raised by the American Army. The main aim behind building this fort was to provide a secured supply depot to support the army during the Second Seminole War. It was named in the honor of Benjamin Pierce (first commander of the fort). The fort was burned down later and currently a state park.
One of the foremost environmental educational facilities in the country, visitors to this facility can observe one of Florida's most treasured winter visitors, the West Indian Manatee, during its migratory period of November through April. An exhibition area, classrooms, observation tower, and gift shop are also on site.
