»Eagle Watch Cruise 12/27/14 At

December 27, 2014 9:30 AM

Lake Coeur dAlene Cruises offers eagle watching cruises on the lake in the winter season. Every year, hundreds of American Bald Eagles visit Lake Coeur dAlene on their annual migration. In December and January, these birds congregate at the lakes northern end to feed on lake-bound salmon. For an up-close look, join us on the Lake Coeur dAlene Cruise Boat to Wolf Lodge Bay. Its an awe-inspiring sight to see these magnificent birds in the wild from the comfort of a cruise boat.  The eagles arrive from Canada and even as far away as Alaska, seeking milder climates for the winter. Lake Coeur dAlene provides an ideal stopover with tree-lined shores and plenty of fish. Their primary meal is the Kokanee salmon, a landlocked sockeye that thrives in the lake and its tributaries. As salmon spawn and reach the end of their life cycle, they become an ideal food for the eagles. Lake Coeur dAlene Cruises is proud to offer two-hour Eagle Watching Cruises. These cruises are often accompanied by naturalists, or alternatively include a DVD presentation about eagles. The experience makes an ideal educational adventure.Take a cruise on the lake to watch the eagles fly through peaceful inlets. The two-deck Lake Coeur dAlene Cruise boats are climate-controlled and have picture windows, which help create a wonderful experience on the water. Lake Coeur dAlene is known as the Playground of the Pacific Northwest for its scenic beauty, and the rail of a cruise boat is the best place to enjoy it.  Read about eagle watching and counting from the Spokesman Review (2013) and the Bureau of Land Management (2011). »Beethoven's Ninth Symphony

December 31, 2014 7:30 PM

When the famed composer Ludwig van Beethoven started to lose his perception of sound, he contemplated suicide. But he instead decided to could carry on, imagining the notes in his head to create vastly impressive orchestrations. The German composer had been trained extensively as a child, and when he lost his hearing he was still able to write dramatic pieces that pull on the heart strings of listeners. The compositions he wrote while deaf have gone on to be regarded as some of the most absorbing songs ever written.
