    »Elton John

    September 17, 2014 8:00 PM

The expansive and lustrous four-decade long career of Sir Elton John began at age three, when he began taking piano lessons and found his affinity for 1960s British pop music. By the age of 11 he was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London, and while studying the classical music composition, he felt a constant tug towards his popular rock music. Elton honed his style and approach to song writing by performing in pubs around the UK, eventually releasing his debut album Empty Sky, in 1969. His 1970 eponymous follow-up served as his breakthrough into mainstream music with the iconic ballad "Your Song," and his signature gospel-infused soft rock style. Throughout the next few decades Elton earned vast amounts of critical and commercial success despite an ever-changing landscape of popular music. With his distinctive flamboyant style and tasteful piano rock music, he has grown into one of the more recognizable faces and voices in the music scene.

    September 19, 2014 7:00 PM

Formed in 1967 under the original name Del McCoury and the Dixie Pals, the Nashville-based Del McCoury Band went through a steady progression of lineup changes, remaining fairly unknown until the 1980s, when the group officially became Del McCoury Band and added McCoury's two sons to the lineup. Rooted in bluegrass traditions, the group finally came to the public's attention after working with Steve Earle and its Grammy nomination. Since then, Del McCoury Band has incorporated more jam band stylings into its live performances and plays regularly with funk group The Lee Boys.

Their style is marked by melodic, mid-tempo guitar underneath beautiful but haunting vocal arrangements that play off the harmonies of the male and female lead singers. Their fan base has held strong through the years, and Lacuna Coil has continued to put out experimental and forward-thinking albums that still stick with their original flavor.

    »Gov't Mule

    September 20, 2014

Blues and rock jammers Gov't Mule have been playing their soulful extended blues since 1994. The New York based group began originally as an Allman Brothers side project of Warren Haynes and Allen Woody. When the Allman Brothers slowed in producing new material, the duo recruited Matt Abts on drums and began focusing solely on Gov't Mule. Now they are a familiar sight on the playbill of many major music festivals across the country, and are known for lots of guest performances from musical cohorts they're befriended along their journey.
