The Dallas Theater Center and director Joel Ferrell present perennial holiday treat, Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol. This familiar beloved tale has been given a musical twist, setting the story to song with original music by David de Berry. Adapted for the stage by Richard Hellesen, the show features many local actors as well as Robert Langdon Lloyd reprising the role of Scrooge from last year. The cast is top-notch, imbuing the story (which can come across as preachy in the wrong hands) with the life and sincerity it needs to make it engaging and heartwarming. Particular standouts are Denise Lee as Mrs. Fezziwig, Hassan El-Amin as Jacob Marley's Ghost, and of course, Robert Langdon Lloyd whose portrayal of Scrooge gives the character depth and likability even in the early parts of the play. The sets are streamlined yet colorful, allowing the audience's focus to stay on the actors. Joel Ferrell has made use of the entire space in his direction, with actors going out into the aisles, further pulling the audience into the story. Though small children may find the appearance of Marley's ghost slightly terrifying, this is a true treat for the whole family and if it's not already an annual tradition, it should be. -Mia Estella
