The Gamble Plantation Historic State Park is a memoir of the sugar plantation in the area. The estate has a large mansion, which used to serve as the main office as well as the home of Major Robert Gamble. It also served as a safe-house for Judah P. Benjamin, the Confederate Secretary of State at one point in time. Now, open to the public, the mansion has been refurbished and echos a typical plantation from its time. While the mansion is open to tours and visitors, the garden area is great for picnics. They also have events here on a regular basis. So call ahead for more information.
