    »Arsenic and Old Lace

    November 01, 2014 7:00 PM

When arriving home to share the happy news of your engagement, the last thing you want to discover is that your family has gone completely crazy. But that's exactly what theater critic Mortimer Brewster finds when he returns home. One uncle thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt at the Panama Canal, another uncle has been transformed by plastic surgery into a Boris Karloff-style monster, and his spinster aunts have taken to poisoning lonely men and burying them in their basement. In this hilarious dark comedy, originally written for the stage in 1939 and later made into a beloved Frank Capra film starring Cary Grant, poor Brewster has to juggle his pre-marriage jitters with family antics and meddling police.

    »Darlene Love

    November 01, 2014 8:00 PM

Darlene Love is a singer/songwriter from California whose soulful, classic pop sound was harnessed among other prolific artists by legendary producer Phil Spector during the 1960s. While she has worked with several musical icons such as Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley and Dionne Warwich, she is best-known for her Spector-penned holiday classic "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home," which was originally featured on the 1963 compilation, A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector. Love has moved forward gracefully into the modern music scene as a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and an annual staple of the Late Show with David Letterman, on which she has appeared as the guest performer of the episode before Christmas every year since 1986, when the show was still known as Late Night with David Letterman.

Kick off your Sunday shoes at the high-energy pop musical "Footloose", based on the hit 1984 movie featuring Kevin Bacon and Sarah Jessica Parker. A hit on Broadway and London's West End, it tells the story of Ren McCormack, a big-city teen who finds himself out of place in a rural town where dancing has been outlawed. As he tries to carve out a place for himself, he sets off a revolution in the town as the younger generation rebels against the strict rules of the religious authorities. As performed by the talented youth performers of Desert Stages Theatre, ages 12-19, you'll hear all the chart-topping songs from the film, including "Almost Paradise," "Holding Out for a Hero" and "Let's Hear It for the Boy," plus new material written for the stage.
