South River is among the two main rivulets of the South Fork Shenandoah River. It starts from Greenville and flows to Port Republic where it joins the North River to make the South Fork. Flowing through Waynesboro, it presents plenty of favorable fishing circumstances for fly fishing enthusiasts. Catch a small-mouth bass, redbreast sunfish or rock bass. Take a float fishing trip to see the fishermen live in action where the bigger fish are caught. For trout angling, the delayed-harvest time is the best time to fish for catch-and-release brown and rainbow trout. There are several hatches in Waynesboro's South River all through the year. The river is also the home of the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival.
