    Located on a closed-off side street, now a charming promenade in the art district of downtown Summerville, this quaint deli-style cafe offers healthy fare sandwiches such as turkey, brie, bacon and apple or the Chicken Boursin. Other items include Frito Pie. Also on the menu are a variety of salads, homemade soups and desserts that are baked fresh daily. When the weather is warm, diners can sit outside at umbrella tables and watch the foot traffic go by. Meals-to-go and catering are also available.     Open since 1982, this upscale restaurant offers traditional American and Southern-style cuisine. The menu and specials changes often and many dishes are created by season and the market. Diners can opt for a buffet lunch or a la carte. The dinner menu includes Oscar's Shrimp and Grits, Steak Oscar or Chicken Oscar stuffed with crab meat and asparagus. Save room for homemade desserts such as the pineapple upside down cake. Intimate seating, cozy booths and dim lighting for romantic dinners. There is also patio dining when weather permits. Full bar service, open until 11p Tuesday through Thursday.

    Established in 1973, this excellent restaurant serves an array of fine, traditional Greek-accented dishes in a Mediterranean provincial atmosphere. "Big Band" era music is performed on the piano Thursday through Saturday evenings. They are open Monday through Saturday for lunch and dinner. They are also open on Sundays for lunch from October to May.

    A colorful blue and white building located in the downtown historic district, this small but popular dining destination offers Greek dining. Patrons can relax outside under umbrella tables or on the side patio. The restaurant features a full bar, daily specials and a children's menu. Sample entrees include a sliced lamb platter served with rice pilaf or Greek potatoes and a side salad.     »Crystal Ice House

    Located in the 1901 building for the original Crystal Ice Company and Clinchfield Coal Corporation, an upstairs bar and first floor restaurant exist here. Open since the 1970s, both have grown into a popular dining and drinking destination. The 2nd floor pub offers over 100 beer selections as well as creative fruit infusions and rums with fruit. No food is sold; however, they have free hot dogs on Saturdays and Sundays. Happy Hour begins at noon and lasts until 8p. Smoking is allowed, but patrons can take their drinks downstairs and relax on the back patio or in rocking chairs on the front porch. The downstairs restaurant is decorated with photos and memorabilia from the 1920s. Family friendly, there is a kids' menu. Parking is off-road along the front of the building. - Natasha Lawrence

    This popular dining spot on Summerville's main highway, near the railroad crossing, offers creative options for hot dogs, tacos and hamburgers. Although the restaurant is small, service is prompt and friendly. There are a few tables inside, as well as umbrella covered ones outside. They name their over-the-top dogs with a variety of "frank" puns, like the Aretha Franklin, which includes pulled pork, BBQ sauce, homemade coleslaw and fried onions. For vegetarians, the soy or carrot dogs are delicious alternatives to the regular dogs. Other menu items include Guinness soaked onion rings and sweet potato fries for two. The restaurant also features a variety of tacos, including shrimp, pulled pork and veggie.
