Formerly called the Glen Oak Conservatory, the Luthy Botanical Garden (George L. Luthy Memorial Botanical Garden) opened its doors in 1951. Spread across five acres (2.02 hectares) of many themed gardens such as the All Seasons Garden, Woodland Garden, Hosta Glade, Wildlife Garden, Rose Garden and Herb Garden, this beautiful green spot is a jewel of the neighborhood. This city landmark is known for its awesome flower shows, special events and horticultural displays. It also features a Conservatory and a garden gift shop which has everything related to gardening and also includes unique knick knacks and jewelry. The Grand Army of the Republic Hall, commonly known as the GAR Hall, is a historic building in the heart of Peoria, that can be rented out to host private celebrations. Established in 1909, it was erected to commemorate the soldiers who fought the American Civil War. Hewitt & Emerson firm designed this structure in the Revival style. Beautiful woodwork, early 20th-century embellishments and stained glass, will add a historical charm to your event.
Peoria Civic Center has been hosting concerts, music festivals, theatre shows and sports events since its opening in 1979. Kelly Rogers jazzed up the center with his dazzling performance in 1982. The WWF has had 33 tournaments in this venue since 1985! And now the crowds croon to the tunes of Aerosmith, Shania Twain and many other dazzlers! The theater facility of the Peoria Civic Center is a spectacular venue with a seating capacity for more than 2000 people in an orchestra setup with twin levels of balcony. It hosts some of the best Broadway performances and is home to the Peoria Orchestra, Ballet and Opera group. Other facilities that form a part of the theater include multiple dressing rooms at the stage level, rehearsal and theater lobby that can be used for functions along with state-of-the-art audio-visual technology. Located in downtown Peoria, this baseball field is the home of the Peoria Chiefs.
This venue owes its named to A. J. (Robbie) Robertson, the former athletic director of Bradley University. Equipped to provide the students of the university with modern exercise and training facilities, this place is apt for the sporty players. The local basket ball team of the city practice and play here on a regular basis. In addition to sports, many music concerts too have been performed by local and talented bands and musicians. Located close to the south eastern shore of Chillicothe, the Shore Acres Clubhouse was originally established as the Peoria Automobile Club in 1915. Designed in the Classical Revival style, the beautiful architecture will add a historic charm to your event. Shore Acres Clubhouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.
For those who love ice skating, the Pekin Memorial Ice Arena is a definite must-visit. Located inside the Mineral Springs Park, this ice arena provides 34,800 square feet of ice haven. The arena itself measures 200' x 85', plus there is a 'Warming Room' where visitors can enjoy steaming hot snacks before braving the ice. Those who do not own skates need not worry because the arena has facilities for renting skates which come in a range of sizes for adults and children.
