»Virginia Arts Festival

March 30, 2015 7:30 PM

The Virginia Arts Festival was established as a cultural tourism program by the city of Norfolk to encourage travel to Hampton Roads. Every spring, this festival presents internationally acclaimed artists and aims at displaying the region's natural beauty and entertaining attractions; it also shows off the city's prosperity in historic, cultural and educational institutions. In the last year, more than 22,000 students participated in the educational programs, while 1,540 artists involved themselves in the fest. This festival now takes place in eight cities across Hampton roads in different concert halls, opera houses, museums, theaters, and churches.

»Tune-yards

March 30, 2015 8:00 PM

The label "experimental music" is often thrown around quite flippantly nowadays. Rightfully so; there are countless bands out there that make a unique style of music that's creative, innovative, original and, well, experimental. One such act is the Oakland, California based tUnE-yArDs. Helmed by Merrill Garbus, tUnE-yArDs makes a interesting blend of music that shifts genres from song to song. All of the compositions are fairly intricate and even though there is a slight lo-fi tinge to many of the tracks, there is a strong underlying current of adept musicianship running throughout the songs.
