German classical violinist Arabella Steinbacher graces Washington's Kennedy Center to play Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, known for its fiendishly challenging solo passages. Praised for her "balanced lyricism and fire" ("The New York Times"), Steinbacher will join conductor Christoph Eschenbach and the National Symphony Orchestra for a program that includes the Russian master's Symphony No. 4, which features enough grand, dramatic Russian flair to rival the literature of Pushkin and Tolstoy. You'll also hear the tone poem "Fate", in which the composer waxes on the power of destiny. This performance is part of the NSO celebration "Fantasy & Fate: Tchaikovsky Masterworks".
